The coastal waters of Central California are in peril due to a myriad of destructive human actions. Historical threats have created long-term effects including: extirpation of keystone species such as sea otters, pollution, and over-fishing. Modern threats include plastic and pathogen pollution, shipping traffic, and underwater noise.
