A Walk through the Universe

September 27, 2015 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Bolinas snagExplore nature from within, in the company of naturalist Juan-Carlos Solis, Debra McKnight Higgins, and fellow earth lovers.  This special walk is a benefit for Green Sangha, raising funds to continue our work of promoting mindful practice and awakened action.

The program begins with an Awareness Circle led by Debra, using simple stretches and silence to prepare for a sensitive and reflective “walk through the universe.”  We will tune our senses to the big picture and the tiniest details.  As we see and hear and touch and smell nature all around us, Juan-Carlos will weave our observations into the central theme, “The Ecology of Interdependence.”  Debra will lead the Closing Circle, with reflections from all and a listening meditation.

Our naturalist tree-huggerThe Walk through the Universe will be a hands-on, minds-on exploration of the nature of “oneness,” a concept which can suggest sameness, or cooperation, or harmony.

All proceeds support Green Sangha’s programs of Mindful Leadership Training, Inner & Outer Restoration at Green Gulch, and Rethinking Plastics.  Participants will receive a copy of our booklet, “A Quick Guide to Awakened Action.”

Tickets are $30; Basic members $20; Sustaining Members free. Click here to join Green Sangha today.

Reservations required.  Purchase your tickets here:  http://walkthroughuniverse.bpt.me.

What to bring.  Dress for changeable weather, with hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen, and wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes.  We will walk about 3-4 miles on moderate terrain, at a gentle pace.  Bring a water bottle (no throw-away plastic, please), and a snack, if you like, to sustain your energy through the morning.

Sunrise clouds IIIIf you are a poet, you will see clearly that there is a cloud floating in this sheet of paper.  Without a cloud, there will be no rain; without rain, the trees cannot grow; and without trees, we cannot make paper.  The cloud is essential for the paper to exist.  If the cloud is not here, the sheet of paper cannot be here either.  So we can say that the cloud and the paper “inter-are.”  Thich Nhat Hanh (1991).  Peace Is Every Step.  Bantam Books, p. 95.
