Flying leapThe Teen Environmental Leadership Academy (TELA) is a two-week summer program for middle and high school youth of San Rafael and surrounding areas.  The purpose is three-fold:

Sustainability: exploring issues of consumerism and sustainable food production
Self-awareness: reducing stress and cultivating inner peace
Leadership development: learning basics of public speaking and advocacy

Methods
Sustainability training: nature exploration with local naturalists; sustainability studies through reading, videos, and discussion; service learning in local organic farms and gardens
Mindful practice: daily practice of somatic movement, conscious breathing, and deep relaxation
Advocacy training: daily speech practice, plus conversations with community leaders

Sites
We will visit several parks and gardens in Marin:  Green Gulch, Point Reyes, Roy’s Redwoods, and Slide Ranch.  We will also go to Marin County’s Civic Center, a National Historic Landmark, to meet with civic officials.
