Plastic Is Getting Drastic

June 23, 2015 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

$10 – $15

Praia da Amado - Moyer 5-10Captain Charles Moore put the Pacific Gyre on the map with his first report, over ten years ago, of the accumulation of plastic particles of all sizes in the ocean.  He and his colleagues in the Algalita Marine Foundation tallied and weighed samples of surface trawls of the Pacific Gyre, finding 6 pounds of plastic for every pound of zooplankton.  Charles will be presenting the results of his latest Pacific Gyre voyage, showing that the concentration of plastics has increased 10-fold in the last 10 years.  A panel of three speakers will discuss solutions to this untenable situation:

  • Miriam Gordon, California Director – Clean Water Action
  • Stiv Wilson, Campaigns Director – The Story of Stuff Project
  • Beth Terry, Author of Plastic Free: How I Kicked the Plastic Habit and How You Can Too
