Benefit Yoga Class

July 26, 2015 @ 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Oak II

Help Green Sangha continue its work of awakened action:  sign up today for our Benefit Yoga Class on Sunday, July 26!  Stuart Moody, certified Yoga instructor, will teach two classes, 2-4 pm and 6-8 pmTickets: $30-50.  Stuart is donating his time, so your donation will go directly to Green Sangha programs and services, which include:

Pilot workshops this summer in Mindful Leadership Training (MLT), teaching vital skills for sustainable, effective activism.
The Teen Environmental Leadership Academy (TELA), including field trips for youth to organic farms in Marin County and mindful practice and environmental awareness for youth in detention.
Seasonal afternoons of Inner & Outer Restoration at Green Gulch.
Plastics awareness advocacy, including protection of the single-use bag bill signed last summer by Gov. Brown.

We need your help.  Due to a shortfall in our finances, our Event Manager must resign at the end of the month if we do not raise the funds to support her excellent, creative work.  Taking TELA to teens in corrections in Contra Costa County will cost $2,000.  Our two-week TELA camp next summer will cost $8,000.  We cannot do these things without your participation!

Purchase your ticket here.  You may attend either class, or both.  You will find Stuart’s yoga teaching enjoyable and enlightening; comments from students are below.  If you can’t attend the class, you can still help by becoming a Sustaining Member.

Thank you for helping us transform the environmental movement through mindful communication and sustainability from within!

About the class
2-4 pm.  Restoring Energy will present five avenues for self-renewal, including touch, somatic movement, and conscious breathing.
6-8 pm.  Opening Your Heart will include the same principles, with a focus on exercises that have been used in research to benefit cardiac health.  We will conclude with a simple but profound meditation for cultivating compassion.

Stuart’s yoga classes are loved by all. Steeped in the somatic approach, his exercises are fun, intriguing, and accessible – tuned to the needs and abilities of participants.  Here are notes from a few of his students:

Trikon I“I felt so good after I left . . . my back didn’t hurt any more for the whole day and half the next day. I’m feeling really good for the first time in a long, long time.” – Mary D., San Leandro

“I really enjoyed the workshop on Friday. On my walk back I found myself very attuned to my sense of smell. I was amazed at how present I was in the observation and enjoyment of pleasant scents that I normally would not have given much of a thought to – an experience that was surely a product of the exercises in your workshop.” – Matt C., undergraduate, University of Arizona

“Your imagery and childlike storytelling as a means of sharing complex spiritual principles is such a unique gift/talent.” – Kathy P., San Leandro

“I just wanted to say thank you so much for your generous offering of somatic yoga instruction in the spring. I learned so much that has helped me breathe slower and calmer throughout the day.”  – Lindsey K., graduate student, University of Arizona
